Norwell, Hanson, Pembroke, Hanover (#286- 289)
Plymouth County’s Norwell (#286) brought Duchess and us to The Trustees property - Norris Reservation. Norwell was settled in 1634 and was an important inland shipbuilding center. A pleasant looping hike along the tidal North River was a treat. That tongue, though!
Found a set of trails out of Camp Kiwanee that fed into a series of cranberry bogs. Hanson (#287) was the original home of the Ocean Spray Corporation.
Pembroke- #288. Strolled through Willowbrook Farms Preserve, part of the Woodlands Trust. We weren’t expecting much but this turned out to be a nice walk. Had to park about a 1/4 mile away in a subdivision because of limited parking. Wide, well maintained trails that led to a central meadow area where there was a Little Free Library. Also saw our first garter snake 🐍 of the year.
Anchors for the ship the USS Constitution, were made in Hanover (#289) at the Nathaniel Cushing Anchor forge that was located at Luddam's Ford during the 1700s. Now Luddam’s Ford pond has some nice hiking trails both above and below the dam.
